@jnaveen

The minute Finn attacked them, SA fell to pieces. If that was the WI from 2012 or 2016, I’ll tell you how that nz innings would have played out. SA were in trouble and were rescued by a brilliant Jansen innings. We could equate that to Icon’s one man rescue act in the 2012 final. We all know how that motivated our bowlers, that sniff of a chance that Samuel’s provided. By the end of the first SL over, Dilahan, then possibly the second most destructive hitter in t20 cricket had his off stump dancing courtesy a vicious Ravi Rampaul outswinger. And the spinners choked SL out of the game. When SA is out under pressure, they collapse way too quickly. The test side is getting some spine but the white ball team still struggles in pressure moments

@PalsofMine

New Zealand for the win! England or India winning means they will have 3 WC titles to our 2.

I really though this thread was about WI..

But then again WI never peaked, (except for England in the league games) they played lower ranked team so they were expected to win

@Jumpstart

That 13th OVER was brutal... match done in record time as though the NRR was playing a part here.

This was like the RED WEDDING in GAME OF THRONES.

43 balls left

@powen001

If they were playing "beat bat out" NZ could have scored closer to 300

South Africa usually chokes in the big games. Nothing new

@Jumpstart

India is a piss poor team and batting second will compensate for all the piss poorness in your team.

@Jumpstart

has to be. the total was below par but they didn't even make a game of it. they froze the minute finn rushed them

We watched a different match. I saw NZ get extremely lucky in those first few overs.

And when SA saw edges go though slips for 4, balls in the air falling just short of fielders, and keeper totally blowing a chance that the man backward of square had a better chance at, all in the power play…..you could see they sensed it wasn’t going to be their day.

I didn't see SA freeze at all. NZ rode their luck and got more and more confident as everything they tried came off.

Thats just the way the game goes sometimes.

I thought there was near unanimous consensus here on this message board that test cricket is the ultimate form of the game, by far, and T20 isn’t really cricket…..and viewed with near scorn by most…….especially the so called aficionados.

Are you now suggesting that the world test championship is lesser than a T20 World Cup? cool

Wed, Mar 4, '26 at 6:07 PM

@powen001

Yeah. It wasn’t pretty for SA at all. They need to put a parental advisory on the match highlights in SA lest an entire generation of children get traumatized and never want to see a bat or ball. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that type of battering in a t20 World Cup between top sides

Wed, Mar 4, '26 at 6:09 PM

@imusic

i agree. They were. But even then you could see SA being mentally broken down by the assault and intent. Kg should have had an opener caught by a top edge but de kick and Brescia could t decide whose catch it was

@Jumpstart

That was Brevis’ catch all the way.

But deKock waved him away and I understand why to an extent. He has the gloves.

But…..he had way too far to run to get to that ball. He totally misjudged it and botched the chance in the process.

@Jumpstart

I thought they were gonna make New Zealand grovel. 😃
