THE MASTER BLASTER

The GREAT man....

I was fortunate to meet him in a local setting in Antigua many years ago.

Behind the resort we stayed at... he came by to offer some advice to some young kids playing in a local league.

The local workers at the resort saw me with my West Indian full-brim hat walking around and told me.

I promptly went over when the time came and NO ONE was there chatting to him... all these little kids had no idea who he was..... I was fortunate to meet the man and sit and have a chat with no crowds.

Also there was Runako Morton's dad who I think was the coach for one of the teams.... I also talked with him for a bit, but did not bring up the 32-ball duck.... lol. RiP to Runako.

@FunnyMan

Viv in his prime was the most destructive batsman to have ever played this game.

Even guys like Lillie and Thommo wanted no part of him when he was on the go.

@SnoopDog

undoubtedly. a butcher of bowling. viv is the only dude had fast men scared. he caused irreparable damage to Rodney hogg's career when he carted him for 59 runs in 6 overs in 1979 in the mcg test(no it wasn't a one day).

Not accurate. At least when it comes to Thomson. Cant say for Lillee.

Viv definitely had no fear. But on that infamous afternoon in Bim when Thommo had Greenidge scared for his life, Desmond Haynes refusing to run singles so he could stay at the non strikers end, Kalli being battered, Viv pelt his bat and only got edges. Thomson definitely did not run from him.

That entire WI batting order, Viv included, wanted nothing with Thommo that afternoon. Viv did stand up to him…..with little to no success.

thommo was the man primarily responsible for clive adopting the four prong pace attack. He needed to outgun thommo. lillee was the most skillful bowler in the world at the time, but few batsmen were thinking about self preservation when facing him, while they were primarily thinking about self preservation when facing thommo.

Music is right, will post anecdotes based on facts Sunday

@imusic

And that was after Thommo had a bad collision in one game and was not as consistently quick as a result.

probably against other test nations. he was always venomous against the WI and England. in his last test against the wi in 1982, he took down greenidge and haynes twice and clive.
